Counselling and Transformational Coaching in Practice
At the heart of my work is a simple belief: human beings are not defined by the worst moment of their lives.
Many people become trapped inside stories shaped by pain, shame, or past experiences. Over time these stories begin to influence how we see ourselves, how we relate to others, and what we believe is possible for our future.
Transformational counselling helps people recognise that these narratives are not their identity. Through insight, honest reflection, and compassionate challenge, individuals reconnect with their deeper truth — the part of themselves that holds their strengths, their potential, and their capacity for growth.
From this place, lasting change becomes possible. Because when people begin to see themselves differently, their lives begin to change at the level of identity.
I am trained in both counselling and coaching, the work naturally moves between depth and direction.
In practice, these are not separate phases but rather different lenses. Through insight, honest reflection, and compassionate challenge, individuals reconnect with their deeper truth — the part of themselves that holds their strengths, their potential, and their capacity for growth. From this place, lasting change becomes possible.
Because when people see themselves differently, their lives begin to change at the level of identity.
Below depicts the difference between counselling and coaching and how I integrate them.
Counselling
Counselling focuses on emotional understanding, relational patterns, and psychological wellbeing. It creates space to explore:
- Early experiences and formative wounds
- Attachment patterns
- Anxiety, stress, or emotional dysregulation
- Relationship dynamics
- Identity and self-worth
Counselling is often depth-oriented and may move at a pace that allows for emotional processing and integration.
Transformational Coaching
Transformational coaching helps people recognise the patterns and identities they once developed to navigate life, so they can choose how they want to live, relate, and move forward with greater authenticity.
- Clarifying goals and direction
- Identifying obstacles
- Strategic decision-making
- Behavioural change
- Accountability and execution
Transformational coaching assumes capacity, is active and directive focusing on forward movement
Direction Without Control
I am not passive in my work, but neither am I prescriptive. I offer direction, challenge patterns where needed, and reflect what I notice — always in service of your autonomy.
This work assumes capacity. You are not broken. The aim is not to fix you, but to strengthen awareness, responsibility, and choice so you can show up more fully and intentionally in your life.
The Focus of the Work
This approach is particularly supportive for individuals who:
- Feel internally stuck despite external competence
- Are navigating transitions, loss, or identity shifts
- Want to move beyond insight into embodied change
- Are ready to take responsibility for how they show up
- Want both emotional depth and strategic clarity
Change may occur along the way — but transformation is the intention.
When who you are begins to shift, what you do follows with greater integrity, confidence, and sustainability.
What You Can Expect
- A structured but relational process
- Honest, thoughtful feedback
- Questions that challenge patterns rather than reinforce them
- Practical insight alongside emotional depth
- Accountability where needed
This is an active process. I do not position you as broken, nor do I position myself as the expert on your life. My role is to help you see clearly, think strategically about change, and move toward the version of yourself you want to embody.
Some sessions will feel reflective and spacious. Others may feel focused and directive. Both are intentional.
Is This the Right Fit?
People often arrive here at a moment when something in their life feels unsettled, even if they cannot fully explain why.
This work is not long-term, open-ended processing without direction. While we make space for understanding the past and honouring emotional experience, the focus remains on integration, agency, and forward movement.
It is not about staying defined by what has happened to you. The past provides context — but this work is oriented toward how you choose to live now and who you are becoming.
And it is not about fixing you. You are not broken. This is a space for strengthening awareness, responsibility, and choice, so you can move forward with clarity and intention.
This work is best suited for individuals who are ready to engage actively, reflect honestly, and move forward with intention.
This work is not crisis intervention or emergency support. If you are in acute distress or require immediate assistance, more appropriate services may be needed.
